Lahore: The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, extended a personal invitation to the Executive Committee of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to visit Uzbekistan, marking a significant step in the evolving relationship between the two countries. This invitation was announced during a gathering at the LCCI, where the ambassador celebrated the recent inauguration of the first direct flight from Tashkent to Lahore as a pivotal development.
According to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ambassador Tukhtaev expressed optimism about future bilateral trade and highlighted the potential for collaboration in areas including energy, logistics, and cultural exchange. He underscored the importance of simplifying visa procedures and enhancing connectivity through direct flights to foster regional economic integration and strengthen ties. The ambassador urged LCCI to organize a business delegation to Uzbekistan, emphasizing the strategic significance of mutual cooperation for regional stability and prosperity.
LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad praised the ambassador’s efforts and highlighted the longstanding diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, spanning over three decades. He emphasized that Uzbekistan is viewed as a key partner in Pakistan’s “Vision Central Asia” policy, which prioritizes trade, investment, energy, and people-to-people connections. Shad pointed to the Preferential Trade Agreement and Transit Trade Agreement as crucial frameworks for enhancing economic ties, expressing confidence in reaching a $1 billion trade target. He noted the current bilateral trade figures stand at $104 million for 2023-24, with Pakistan exporting $78 million and importing $26 million from Uzbekistan. Highlighted sectors for growth include agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles, renewable energy, and information technology.
