Karachi: VIS Credit Rating Company Limited has announced an upgrade in the short-term entity rating of Sazgar Engineering Works Limited, elevating it from ‘A/A2’ to ‘A/A1’. The upgrade signals a strong likelihood of timely repayment for short-term obligations, supported by excellent liquidity factors. The outlook has also been revised to ‘Positive’ from ‘Stable’, reflecting the company’s improved credit quality and potential for further growth.
According to a statement by VIS Credit Rating Company Limited, the decision is based on Sazgar Engineering’s strengthening position in the automotive industry. Originally established as a private limited company in 1991 and converted to a public limited company in 1994, Sazgar has made significant strides in the market. Initially recognized for its prominence in the three-wheeler segment, the company has successfully expanded into the SUV and hybrid electric vehicle sectors, benefiting from the Automotive Development Policy (2016-21).
The company’s leadership in the three-wheeler market, coupled with its emerging dominance in the four-wheeler segment, has been instrumental in this rating upgrade. Factors contributing to Sazgar’s success include competitive pricing, feature-rich models, growing consumer preference for SUVs, and effective marketing and distribution strategies. Favorable government policies have also played a role in the company’s upward trajectory.
In fiscal year 2024 and the first five months of fiscal year 2025, Sazgar Engineering reported substantial growth in net sales and improvement in profitability indicators. The company’s liquidity profile has remained satisfactory, supported by robust coverage and low bank borrowings, enhancing its overall credit standing.
While the short-term rating upgrade and positive outlook reflect Sazgar’s current success, the long-term sustainability of sales volumes faces challenges amid economic fluctuations and competitive pressures. Continuation of sales growth and maintenance of financial coverages and capitalization indicators will be critical for future rating assessments.
