Widespread Protests in Kashmir Following Assassination of Hassan Nasrallah

Srinagar: The assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah sparked massive protests across various districts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with demonstrators expressing their grief and outrage over his death.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Nasrallah, a figure celebrated in Kashmir for his opposition to Israeli policies in Palestinian territories, was killed in an aerial attack by Israel in Lebanon. His death led to immediate and widespread reactions throughout the region, with significant demonstrations occurring in Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla, and Bandipora.

In Srinagar, large groups, including many children waving black flags, assembled in multiple neighborhoods to mourn and protest. Similar gatherings occurred in other significant towns such as Budgam and Bandipore, where residents vocalized their support for resistance movements and called for an end to Israeli military actions in Gaza and Lebanon.

Protesters like Tabish Abbas and Fazil Hussain shared personal sentiments about Nasrallah’s influence and leadership, highlighting the deep emotional connection many felt towards him. Women also prominently participated in these protests, with individuals like Shaafia expressing profound shock and sorrow at the news of Nasrallah’s death.

Prominent local leaders and politicians also made public statements and gestures in response to the event. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, and politicians such as Riyaz Bedar and Aga Syed Ruhullah, among others, actively engaged in commemorations and public expressions of solidarity, emphasizing Nasrallah’s role as a resistance icon.

The political impact was also notable, with several campaign events and public engagements being canceled as leaders and communities chose to honor Nasrallah’s memory and legacy. These actions underscore the strong political and emotional ties between the people of Kashmir and the broader anti-Israel resistance, as well as the significant role international figures can play in local political and social movements.
