Women’s Parliamentary Caucus Hosts Workshop on Social Media and Women’s Empowerment

Islamabad: The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus of Pakistan’s 16th National Assembly, led by Secretary Dr. Shahida Rehmani, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, conducted a Thought Leadership Workshop aimed at enhancing the skills of women Members of the National Assembly. The workshop, held on December 1, 2024, focused on social media management, combating misinformation, and advocating for women’s empowerment in a digital space, alongside addressing women’s physical, legal, and social safety.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the workshop began with a keynote address by Dr. Shahida Rehmani, in which she acknowledged the participation of women parliamentarians and highlighted the Caucus’s legislative achievements in protecting women from harassment and discrimination. She emphasized the importance of collective efforts for promoting digital democracy and encouraged effective use of parliamentary tools and media for women’s representation and well-being.

The event saw active involvement from women parliamentarians across various political parties, who collectively recognized challenges such as the limited participation of women in politics and the lack of recognition for their empowerment efforts. They also discussed the struggles faced by women parliamentarians in obtaining party tickets for general elections and their treatment within political spheres.
