World Bank Officials Meet with Pakistani Revenue Board to Discuss Reforms

Islamabad: The Country Director of the World Bank, Najy Benhassine, accompanied by key members of his team, held a meeting with Rashid Mahmood, Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) of Pakistan, and his team. The discussion focused on aligning the Pakistan Raises Revenue Project with the FBR Transformation Plan, highlighting the government’s vision for reforming the country’s revenue system.

According to Federal Board of Revenue, the meeting underscored the government’s focus on revenue growth through facilitating compliance. Mahmood emphasized the necessity of reforms to address tax compliance gaps through digitalization, human resource capacity building, anti-smuggling measures, and broader tax administration reforms. He also sought further support from the World Bank for establishing digital enforcement stations, digitalizing the supply chain, and conducting feasibility studies for these initiatives.

Najy Benhassine expressed support for Pakistan’s revenue mobilization efforts, committing to collaborative work between the World Bank and FBR to advance the transformation plan under the Pakistan Raises Revenue Program.
