World Cleanup Day Highlights Urgent Need to Address Textile and Fashion Waste

Islamabad: World Cleanup Day was observed on Saturday, emphasizing the pressing issue of textile and fashion waste and its impact on oceans.

According to Radio Pakistan, the theme for this year’s observance was “Tackling Textile and Fashion Waste through Circular Fashion.” Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, highlighted the increasing threat posed by textile and fashion waste to marine environments. In his message, he stressed the significance of sustainable policies, citing the Prime Minister’s dedication to prioritizing climate change as a crucial step towards safeguarding the environment, the economy, and public welfare.

The Minister called upon industries, policymakers, and citizens to acknowledge the risks associated with textile and fashion waste. He advocated for cooperative efforts to establish a circular economy, which would protect both livelihoods and biodiversity.
