World Leprosy Day Focuses on Combating Stigma and Raising Awareness

Islamabad: World Leprosy Day is being observed today. The aim of observing World Leprosy Day is to create awareness against the stigma attached to the disease by making the general community aware that it is a disease spread by a type of bacteria and it can be easily cured.

According to Radio Pakistan, this year the theme of the day is “Leprosy is curable, the real challenge is stigma”. The focus is on educating the public that while leprosy is a curable disease, the misconceptions and discrimination associated with it pose significant challenges. The observance promotes understanding and empathy towards those affected by leprosy, encouraging communities to support patients in accessing treatment and rehabilitation.
