World Ozone Day Focuses on Climate Actions Under Montreal Protocol

Islamabad: Today, World Ozone Day is being marked globally to underscore the significance of protecting the ozone layer, which is crucial for human and environmental health on Earth. The theme for this year, “Montreal Protocol – Advancing Climate Actions,” highlights the ongoing efforts to combat ozone depletion.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Montreal Protocol, an international treaty signed in 1992 aimed at reducing substances that harm the ozone layer. Sharif noted the unfortunate human activities that have led to the ozone layer’s depletion and mentioned the establishment of Pakistan’s National Ozone Unit in 1996. He emphasized that Pakistan is on track to meet a 67.5 percent reduction in harmful emissions by next year, thanks to transitioning industries to ozone-friendly technologies.

Sharif’s message also highlighted the collective efforts needed to protect the ozone layer, reflecting the country’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
