Ziauddin University Secures Stable Credit Ratings Amidst Strategic Growth

KARACHI: The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency Limited (PACRA) has affirmed the entity ratings of Ziauddin University, emphasizing its stable financial profile and strategic expansion initiatives. Established in 1995, the non-profit university has evolved beyond its initial focus on medical education to include fields like Management Sciences and Information Technology, solidifying its status as a leading higher education institution in Pakistan.

Ziauddin University has expanded its geographic footprint with campuses in Karachi and a recent addition in Sukkur, where it offers Doctor of Pharmacy and Physiotherapy programs. Plans to establish a teaching hospital at the Sukkur campus aim to enhance its healthcare education offerings. The University’s flagship Ziauddin Medical College plays a crucial role, contributing over 45% of its revenue and maintaining high standards in academic and clinical training.

In response to the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals, the University has pioneered advancements in nursing education, including offering a PhD program, one of the few available in Pakistan. This initiative highlights the University’s commitment to addressing both local and international healthcare needs.

In 2023, Ziauddin University launched a Clinical Trial Unit to boost research capabilities and revenue generation. This facility positions the University as a key player in the global healthcare community’s efforts to develop new treatments and therapies.

The University’s leadership maintains a positive outlook on financial sustainability, supported by a low-leveraged capital structure and efficient management of the working capital cycle. The governance framework benefits from the involvement of esteemed educationists on its Board of Governors and Board of Trustees.

The ratings from PACRA underscore the importance of prudent financial management and maintaining sufficient cash flows and coverage ratios. Any significant decline in these areas could adversely affect the University’s credit ratings.
