10th National Women’s Cycling Championship to be hosted by Water and Power Development Authority

Karachi: The 10th National Women Cycling Championship will be convened between May 10 – 13 at the Cycling Velodrome Lahore. This was announced by Secretary General Pakistan Cycling Federation Syed Azhar Ali Shah.

He informed that all affiliated units of PCF i.e. Pakistan Army, WAPDA, Railway, Sui Southern Gas Company, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA will field their Women cyclists to participate in the championship which will be hosted by WAPDA. During the championship following competitions will be held;

1. One km Time trial
2. One km Sprint
3. Team Pursuit
4. Individual Pursuit
5. Elimination
6. 20 kms individual road time trial
7. 30 kms team time trial
8. 50 kms Scratch road race

He further informed that prior to 10th National Women Cycling Championship the 1st Inter-Provincial Women Cycling Championship will be held at Peshawar from May 7 – 8, 2012. The championship will be organized by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association in which women teams from four provinces, FATA and Islamabad will take part. The following three events will be held in 1st Inter-Provincial Women Cycling Championship;

1. 15 kms individual time trial
2. 20 kms team time trial
3. 30 kms scratch road race

Mr. Azhar Ali Shah informed that in October 2012 KP Cycling Association will organize the International Mountain Bike race at Kaghan in collaboration with Kaghan Memorial Trust for which eight International teams have confirmed to participate, till date. Regarding PCF’s former Secretary Idris Haider Khawaja’s claim for organizing Women Cycling Championship in which according to him team from Afghanistan will also participate, Mr. Shah stated that any event in which foreign teams take part cannot be called a National event.

He further explained that the so called Afghan team which took part in an earlier event organized by Mr. Idris Haider Khawaja was not an affiliated team of Afghan Cycling Federation. Mr. Khawaja is in practice of bogus claims since September 24, 2011 when he lost his position in PCF Election held under the supervision of POA, Mr. Shah added.
