Islamabad, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): An emotive spirit of patriotism was on display as hundreds of Pakistanis gathered at the lawns of Pakistan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur to attend the Flag Hoisting ceremony arranged by the Mission to commemorate the 73rd Pakistan Day, says a press release received here today from Malaysia.
Elaborate arrangements were made by the High Commission to mark the day in true national spirit of patriotism and fanfare. The celebrations began with the hoisting of the National Flag by Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia Mr.Shahid M.G. Kiani to the accompaniment of National Anthem. Head of Chancellery Dr. Ali Ahmed Arain read out messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Mr. Shahid Kiani highlighted the significance of the Pakistan Day in reminding the nation of the countless sacrifices rendered by the Muslims of subcontinent in their struggle to carve a separate homeland where they could order their lives in accordance with their religion, customs and traditions without any fear or discrimination. He urged all Pakistanis to forge ahead to turn their beloved country into a strong, progressive, enlightened and economically stable nation.
Mr. Kiani also dilated on what he described as “close fraternal ties” between Pakistan and Malaysia due to commonality of many factors, including religion, traditions, culture and even food. He said both countries had been cooperating with each other in international forums such as OIC, Commonwealth, NAM, ARF, ASEM, ACD and D-8. He recalled the D-8 Summit hosted by Pakistan in November 2012, bringing together leaders of member countries, including Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Hj Mohd Yassin.
The High Commissioner particularly noted the “notable advances” made in the domain of bilateral economic and commercial cooperation at the back of a burgeoning trade and commerce. He also lauded the role of Pakistani community in the development of Malaysia and urged them to display exemplary conduct towards fellow Malaysians. “You are the ambassadors of your country and it is binding on you to work diligently for the progress and prosperity of both Pakistan and Malaysia and win hearts and minds of your hosts during your stay here,” he added.
The highlight of the event was an enthralling musical performance rendered by a group of Pakistani Ghazal singers currently visiting Kuala Lumpur. It was followed by a colourful tableau presented by the Pakistani schoolchildren who through their colourful dresses, lively skits, songs and acts showcased the rich cultural and social customs of four provinces of Pakistan. A group of Pakistani students enrolled in local universities also enthralled the audience with their melodious live performances and cultural dances representing the diverse culture of Pakistan. Later, guests were served with Pakistani food delicacies.
Meanwhile, widely-circulated and politically influential Malaysian English newspaper New Straits Times also brought out an eight-page Special Supplement, featuring an array of articles and write-ups highlighting the spirit of the Pakistan Day and advances made by Pakistan in various sectors as well as the vast potential for opportunities for business, investment and tourism in Pakistan.
