Ahsan Iqbal Urges Pakistan’s Pharma Sector to Elevate Export Capabilities

Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has called on the pharmaceutical industry to make Pakistan a competitive, innovation-driven, and globally export-oriented pharmaceutical hub. He made this call while chairing a roundtable conference with pharmaceutical industry experts and stakeholders in Islamabad. The meeting was also attended by Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal proposed that the pharmaceutical industry conduct a one-month internal consultation and workshop involving all relevant stakeholders. The exercise aims to identify the industry’s priorities, challenges, and future growth potential, with the goal of producing a clear medium- and long-term roadmap extending to 2030 and beyond.

The Minister assured full support of the government to the pharmaceutical industry. The sector roadmap presented at the roundtable outlines a progression from $457 million in exports in fiscal year 2025 to a two-billion-dollar industry target. This is to be followed by three billion dollars through PharmEx within three years and ten billion dollars within eight years.
