Ambassador Jamil Ahmed Khan held a meeting with the Pakistan Business council

Abu Dhabi, August 24, 2012 (PPI-OT): Ambassador Jamil Ahmed Khan held a meeting with the Pakistan Business council to review the upcoming SIAL 2012. During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed satisfaction over the continuous participation of Pakistani exporters in food sector exhibitions.

He however showed concern on the lack of response by food trade industry in Pakistan for participation in SIAL 2012 in Abu Dhabi. “Any opportunity lost will throw us back many years and we will not get proper location of stalls thus the future exporters would be handicapped of the exports opportunities”, said Ambassador Khan while talking to Pakistani exporters.

Ambassador Khan underscored the point that Pakistan’s main strength in exports is food and agriculture. When the whole world is facing threat of food security, our focus in this area would be extremely significant and profitable, he said.

The Embassy has separately taken up the matter with Ministry of Commerce and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and is taking a proactive role in increasing the exports of the food sector of Pakistan to protect the collective interset of food exporters.

Currently, the total volume of trade in food items between Pakistan and the UAE is around US$ 500 million; however Pakistan’s share in UAE’s global food imports of more than US$ 8 billion is less than 10% which itself indicates the scope of exploration in food exports from Pakistan.

While talking to the food exporters and the officers of the Embassy’s commercial wing, Ambassador Khan highlighted that UAE is the springboard of global exports mainly for the Middle East and African region. Pakistani food exporters while participating in SIAL 2012 will have opportunities to network and create business linkages with regional industry sources.
