APHC Calls for Release of Detained Hurriyat Leaders and Political Prisoners

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has issued a demand for the immediate release of all Hurriyat leaders, activists, youth, women, and journalists currently detained in various prisons across India and the occupied territories.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas stated in Srinagar that there is grave concern regarding the ongoing detention of over five thousand Kashmiris, including prominent figures like APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt and others. These detainees are held across different facilities in India and Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The APHC has also appealed to the United Nations, urging intervention based on its resolutions to address the longstanding dispute in Kashmir. Furthermore, Minhas called on the Indian government to abandon its policies of military dominance and political revenge, which he claims hinder the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict in accordance with international mandates.

The statement emphasized the need for a conducive environment for tripartite talks involving India, Pakistan, and the Kashmiri leadership to earnestly discuss the future of Jammu and Kashmir. Minhas reiterated the APHC’s stance favoring meaningful dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue, highlighting that the Kashmiri people, as primary stakeholders, are keen on a definitive resolution that respects their right to self-determination.

In a pointed critique of Indian policies, Minhas declared that local electoral processes could not substitute for a plebiscite as promised by the United Nations to determine the political destiny of Kashmir, which remains an internationally recognized disputed territory.
