New Delhi: Hindu organizations in Himachal Pradesh have initiated a door-to-door campaign advocating for the economic boycott of Muslims, escalating community tensions in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, what began as targeted hostility against the Sanjuli Masjid in Shimla by Hindu groups has now expanded across the state. The campaign is characterized by the distribution of pamphlets urging locals to avoid purchasing from Muslim-owned businesses.
The efforts are backed by elements within the state’s Congress government, echoing sentiments typically associated with BJP rhetoric against Muslims. This silence and complicity have contributed to a climate of fear among Muslim shop owners, leading to the closure of businesses in Hamirpur.
The campaign, led by a group known as Dev Bhoomi Jagran Manch, involves distributing pamphlets that blame economic and social issues on the Muslim community. These pamphlets specifically instruct Hindus not to engage with Muslim-owned businesses, including tailoring, food services, and other retail operations, and to exclusively support Hindu providers.
