Assistant Secretary Ryan Travel to Burma, Laos, and Vietnam

Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan will travel, September 6-10, to Burma, Laos, and Vietnam to promote and strengthen the State Department’s educational and cultural diplomacy efforts in the ASEAN region, including highlighting the U.S. Government’s commitment to English-language programming.

In Yangon, Burma, Assistant Secretary Ryan will meet with government officials and alumni of exchange programs, September 6-7. Topics will include the new American Center and EducationUSA, youth engagement, and English-language opportunities.

Assistant Secretary Ryan will then travel to Luang Prabang, Laos, where she will give remarks at the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Summit on September 8, as well as meet with officials and exchange program alumni. In addition, she will visit several cultural sites supported by the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation.

In Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Assistant Secretary Ryan will connect with current exchange participants and alumni and discuss English-language programming and educational opportunities, September 9-10. She will also meet with officials from the new Fulbright University Vietnam.
