Bahria University medical and Dental College holds 2nd convocation

Karachi, May 21, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Second Convocation of Bahria University Medical and Dental College, Karachi was held today to commemorate the academic accomplishments of its 2nd Batch of MBBS students. The students were also honoured with Gold and Silver Medals and Certificates for their outstanding achievements in their academic career at the convocation. Pro-Chancellor of Bahria University, Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah graced the occasion as Chief Guest and conferred degrees upon the graduating doctors.

In total, 91 students were awarded degrees by Naval Chief. Gold and Silver medals were also awarded to Ms. Maryam Irshad and Ms Shireen Sabir Ansari respectively. Besides the Medal winners, Asifa Qasim, Ali Usman and Zulqarnain Haider achieved distinction in their respective departments.

While congratulating and extending felicitations to the graduates on their commitment, hard work and success in achieving this milestone, the Naval Chief said that, today we are facing multiple challenges arising from global economic changes and increasingly fierce and complex health issues.

The young doctors are a great asset for our nation and we have high hopes and expectations that they will play a key role in combating health problems and issues of our people. Admiral Zakaullah advised the graduates to be men and women of sterling character, have a positive attitude towards life, and sacrifice your personal gains for the national interests.

The Naval Chief appreciated Bahria University Medical and Dental College’s (BUM and DC) contributions in imparting the requisite education and said that the College is on the forefront in conceiving and implementing initiatives and programs with special focus on grooming and capacity building of the medical students. He assured that support of Pakistan Navy will always be there to provide facilitation in their future endeavours.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Vice Admiral (Retd) Tanveer Faiz, Rector Bahria University said that the universities have great responsibility of producing quality graduates who could contribute positively in various fields. Bahria University will not leave any stone unturned to abreast the students with high quality education at par with other medical universities of the world.

While underlining Bahria University’s commitment to provide best possible teaching and learning environment to its students, the Rector said that Bahria University has provided a dedicated, experienced and well qualified faculty that stands as a testament to this commitment.

He said that it is this coherent team and their zealous effort that has led to recognition of our MBBS program by PMDC for 150 seats with flying scores and grades. He also briefed about the institutional tools available for scholastic inquiry, training and research at Bahria Medical and Dental College. The ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Education sector, Naval Officers and parents of the passing out graduates.
