Balochistan Food Authority Cracks Down on Food Centers for Regulatory Violations

Quetta: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has ramped up its enforcement actions against both small and large food centers and factories throughout Quetta, levying fines on 14 establishments, including a notable ice cream processing unit and a spice unit, for various infractions. This initiative is part of a broader campaign to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and standards.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the BFA’s operation teams conducted inspections across several areas of Quetta, such as Koari Road, Toghi Road, Sarki Road, Nawan Kali, and Hazara Town. The authority targeted a range of businesses, including bakeries, namkeen (snack) factories, meat shops, cooking houses, and other food-related establishments, for failing to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Additionally, two departmental stores and two general stores were penalized for stocking expired food products.

In Hub, further enforcement actions were taken as BFA zonal teams confiscated banned and unhygienic Chinese salt from two general stores. Moreover, despite previous warnings, two restaurants were fined for inadequate cleanliness and overall non-compliance with established SOPs. A butter processing unit in Quetta was also instructed to halt production until its products were registered with the BFA.
