Benazir Income Support Programme and Korangi Association of Trade and Industry sign deal to impart vocational training to beneficiaries

Karachi, February 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today to impart vocational training to the BISP beneficiaries and provide trained labor work force to the industry. The signing ceremony between BISP and KATI was held in KATI Office Korangi Karachi. Mr. Enver Baig, Chairman BISP, and Syed Farrukh Mazhar, President KATI signed the MOU.

The main objectives of the MoU are poverty reduction through job placement of successful trainees of BISP’s VTP, provide trained labor work force to the industry and minimize the shortage of skilled work force in different emerging trades and encouragement of females to earn a sustainable livelihood.

BISP is imparting vocational training to its selected beneficiaries in various trades under its vocational training program namely “Waseela-e-Rozgar” (WR) through public and private sector training institutes, so as to inculcate such skills into the beneficiaries (or their nominees) that could enable them to earn their livelihood and take their family out of the quagmire of poverty.

KATI has offered BISP to place the successful trainees of its Waseela-e-Rozgar in the industries and commercial concerns of its members and to impart on job training (apprenticeship) to untrained BISP’s beneficiaries.

According to the MoU, the KATI will determine the employment needs of the market. Accordingly, the skills development training would be provided to the beneficiaries by BISP and their placement in job market will be ensured by the Association. The duration of the training would be six months and BISP will pay the Stipend of Rs 6000/- to the beneficiaries or her nominees during on job training (OJT).

BISP will provide to KATI details of successful VTP trainees in the identified trades, who shall, after interview and ascertainment of suitability, be employed by KATI member industries in its member industries and commercial concerns.

Syed Farukh Mazhar President Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) welcomes Chairman BISP and appreciate its initiative regarding industries. He also said that KATI will cooperate and coordinate with BISP for job placement in industry.

Chairman BISP thanks KATI members for cooperating with BISP and said that this initiative has done with the direction of Honorable Prime Minister.
