Bin Qasim Industrial Zone is largest industrial area of Sindh province: Mian Mohammad Ahmed

Karachi, May 28, 2014 (PPI-OT): Bin Qasim Industrial Zone (BQIZ) is the largest industrial area of Sindh province, spread over 25000 acres of land of Port Qasim / Bin Qasim Town area. This area offers enormous potential for local and foreign Investment. This was stated by Mian Mohammad Ahmad, Patron-in-chief of Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry (BQATI) during Interactive Session held in Karachi recently.

The Interactive Session was organized by BQATI to deliberate as to how to promote Industrial Investment in BQIZ and more particularly in the Industrial Zones of Port Qasim. This Session deliberated on the role of Port Qasim Authority (PQA) in the promotion of Industrialization, available strength of this area, weaknesses, problems and the opportunities.

At the outset President BQATI Amin Ali Dawood, Senior Vice President BQATI Shakil Ashfaq, Vice President BQATI Salim Dada and Members Managing Committee BQATI welcomed the guest.

The Session was very well attended by Chairman, Port Qasim Authority, Agha Jan Akhter, Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi, I.G. Sindh Police, Iqbal Mahmood, PSP, DIGP East Karachi, Munir Ahmed Shaikh, PSP, DIGP South Karachi, Abdul Khalique Shaikh, PSP, Sector Commander Bhittai Rangers, Col. Jawaid Baloch, Zakaria Usman, President FPCCI, Abdullah Zaki, President KCCI, Mohammed Bashir Janmohammed, Chairman Westbury, Cyrus R. Cowasjee, PQA Board Member and Leading Industrialists.

Rasheed Janmohammed, immediate Past Vice President of BQATI submitted a comprehensive Presentation before the August House, he briefed that the BQIZ has a great potential having abundance availability of land spread over 25,000 acres a dedicated Industrial Zone annexed to the Port Qasim, first Industrial Port of Pakistan which caters 40% of the cargo movement having dedicated terminals for Containers, Grains, Edible Oils, Chemicals, Petroleum, Coal and Iron Ore, having easy access to National Highway and Super Highway, Karachi Airport. comparatively improved Law and Order.

The Association also pointed out available weaknesses namely lack of Utility Service providers infrastructure, insufficient availability of Electricity, Gas, Water, Sewerage and Telecommunication facilities,

It was deliberated that the existing demand already submitted with K-Electric is 40MW, due to non availability of K-Electric Infrastructure, Industries are incurring heavy cost, compelled to lay 4-6 km cables from Grid Station to Industries and in some cases it goes around 8-10 km.

Further it was highlighted that Bin Qasim Industrial Zone have great potential to grow and expand rapidly its annual requirement for expansion is between 50 to 75 MW where as there are only two grids stations to facilitate the industries situated in Port Qasim Industrial Zone, both grids are 35% over loaded to its capacity, no more load available on these Grids.

Chairman, Port Qasim, Agha Jan Akhtar was very proactive and offered himself to be the focal point on behalf of PQA to facilitate resolving the issues of K-Electric, SSGC, KWSB, PTCL and Law and Order. The Chairman also offered utmost cooperation of PQA for the Investment in the Port Industrial Zone.

Iqbal Mehmood, IG Sindh Police, also give his candid thoughts and acknowledged that the Bin Qasim Area needs some more concentration from Law and Order point of view as there is huge potential for Industrial Investment.

He offered his cooperation that the Senior Police Officers team will have regular deliberation with BQATI and resolve all the highlighted issues related to Law and Order. He also offered his cooperation in convincing the relevant authorities to improve the traffic and to remove the encroachments at the National and Mehran Highways.

The Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui also proactively participated and assured his cooperation in taking up the matter with relevant authorities particularly to remove the hurdles at National and Mehran Highways as same are the main arteries connected to Bin Qasim Area.

The delegation of K-Electric, SSGC, PTCL and other relevant service providers also agreed to be part of regular deliberation with PQA and BQATI so as to provide a feasible platform for the future Investment.

BQATI President, Amin Ali Dawood, Senior Vice President Shakil Ashfaq, Vice President Salim Dada, Members Managing Committee Parvez Ghias, Mehmood Baqi Moulvi, Shahid Hussain Butt, Adnan Zafar, Naveed Shakoor and Mohammed Rasheed thanked the honorable guest and presented BQATI Momentous.
