BJP Leader Mithun Chakraborty Makes Controversial Anti-Muslim Remarks in Kolkata.

Kolkata: In a troubling incident adding to Islamophobic rhetoric in India, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty made a highly provocative statement during a party event in Kolkata, West Bengal.

According to Kashmir Media Service, an anonymous individual filed a complaint at Bowbazar Police Station in central Kolkata against Chakraborty, alleging that he made anti-Muslim statements at a BJP organizational meeting on October 27, remarks which could incite violence and tension.

Chakraborty, in the presence of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, threatened Muslims, stating, “A day will come when we will chop and bury you in your own soil.” The remarks have sparked significant concern for their inflammatory nature.

In his address, Chakraborty targeted Muslims indirectly through Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Humayun Kabir, referencing Kabir’s comments about religious demographics in the Muslim-majority Murshidabad district. Chakraborty stated, “I am saying this in front of the Union Minister that I will do whatever is required for West Bengal. There are hidden meanings when I say that I will do whatever is needed… A day will come when we will chop and bury you in your own soil.” His words have raised concerns about incitement and heightened communal tensions in West Bengal’s already charged political atmosphere.

The Kolkata Police have filed an FIR against Chakraborty, a Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee, based on the complaint, though further legal action remains unclear.
