The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that the people would assemble at Eidgah in Srinagar on Friday to register their protest against the continued Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Syed Ali Gilani while issuing call for Eidgah March as part of his fresh protest calendar appealed people to continue the ongoing strike till Friday in protest against the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru and subsequent killings by Indian troops in Kashmir.
On the other hand, India and its puppet authorities continued to impose indefinite curfew in the occupied territory for the fourth consecutive day, today. However, people defying curfew staged anti-India and pro-freedom demonstrations in Srinagar, Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipore, Budgam, Ganderbal, Islamabad, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts. Scores of people were injured when Indian troops resorted to brute force on protesters.
The authorities continued to confine APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in New Delhi. Hurriyet leaders Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Agha Syed Hasan Al-Moosvi Al-Safavi, Bilal Ghani Lone, Masroor Abbas Ansari, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Farida Behenji remained under house arrest.
Hurriyet leaders and activists including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Noor Mohammad Kalwal, Firdous Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Shafi Reshi, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Hakeem Abdur Rasheed Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Muhammad Yousuf Nadeem and member of so-called Kashmir Assembly Engineer Abdur Rasheed were lodged at different police stations of the occupied territory.
A Delhi-based civil rights body, People’s Union for Democratic Rights in a statement described the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru as an inhuman, brutal, unfair and unjust act carried out for narrow political benefit of those in power. The Human Rights Forum and Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society in their separate statements in Srinagar also denounced the hanging, terming it as injustice.
The relatives of martyred Muhammad Afzal Guru while talking to media men demanded his dead body for proper burial in his hometown, Sopore. The APHC-AJK chapter held a prayers session, with Convenor, Mahmood Ahmed Saghar in chair in Islamabad for the departed soul of Muhammad Afzal Guru.
