Capacity Building Working Group stresses on institutional development

Karachi, December 06, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Capacity Building Working Group (CBWG) is focusing on creation of an enabling environment, institutional development, human resource development and strengthening of managerial systems. Zulfikar Thaver chairman CBWG under the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS), Technical Committee (TC) said the strategy is also looking at community participation and women in particular to include all segments of the society. The primary sector needs the best attention of the policymakers.

Next is the value addition sector followed by the tertiary sector. The CBWG is scheduled for its second meeting on 8th December 2016 at the NFIS secretariat at the State Bank of Pakistan to accelerate the agenda of the NFIS for the betterment of the micro to medium sized sector. The CBWG is aware of the requirements of the sector, the impediments and have recommended measures for the uplift of the sector.

Thaver said on behalf of himself and the SMEs he would invite the attention of the CBWG members to the very important issues of access to finance, lack of expertise in risk management, the absence of dedicated SME bank and branches, the insistence of immovable property as collateral and high bank charges for transactions. Secondly there is need for pay as you earn schemes, land at concession with soft repayment terms and comprehensive insurance cover in all aspects of business.

He emphasized the need for fast track and high impact remedies to uplift the sector which is facing tough times due to global decline in commodities and other items. Other important requirements are technical and marketing support which is the need of the hour. The facilities of online business and E-commerce are the key to SME growth he elaborated.
