Capital Development Authority urged to focus on development of markets to facilitate growth of business activities

Islamabad, February 14, 2014 (PPI-OT): CDA has been ignoring developmental works in markets for last eight years due to which these markets are deprived of even basic facilities and present a dilapidated look. This situation is badly affecting the growth of business activities and CDA should urgently start developmental works in commercial centers to facilitate the growth of trade activities. This was urged by Khalid Chaudhry, Senior Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Secretary Information, Traders Action Committee, Islamabad while exchanging views with representatives of various markets.

He said CDA has a full-fledged Directorate Maintenance, but it seems that it has become dormant as no developmental works are being undertaken in markets. He called upon the Chairman CDA to release necessary funds for upgradation of markets to save them from further destruction. He said the condition of markets in Sectors G-9, G-10, G-13, I-9 and I-10 have badly deteriorated as these are without basic facilities like street lights, pure drinking water, toilets, footpaths etc.

Khalid Chaudhry said there is no doubt that CDA is facing financial constraints and assured that business community is ready to cooperate with it for overcoming its financial problems. However, the civic body should provide at least basic facilities in markets, which are necessary to improve basic infrastructure. The absence of street lights is giving rise to crimes due to which traders are very much concerned.

He said CDA Chairman Mr. Maroof Afzal is an engineer while Member Administration Mr. Amer Ali Ahmed is a competent officer. If these two officers could not tide over the financial problems of CDA, then there is no hope of its financial turn-around. He said CDA should also pay urgent attention to improve water filtration plants which have gone out of order in many places.
