Chairman National Accountability Bureau meeting in China

Hubei, November 12, 2016 (PPI-OT): Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Hou Changan, Secretary of CDI of CPC, H.E. Mr. Wu Qi, Director General of National Bureau of Corruption Prevention Hubei and H.E. Ms. Qan Puliu, DG, Foreign Office at Hubei, China. The meeting held in a very cordial atmosphere in which matters of mutual interest came under discussion.

Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB said that Corruption affects country just like a cancer. Considering these facts National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was established as Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption with the mandate to eliminate corruption from the country.

NAB under the present leadership has chalked out a comprehensive National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) for eradication of corruption and corrupt practices throughout the country. Due to NAB’s efforts, Rs 278 billion have been recovered from corrupts and deposited in national exchequer. The figures are indicative of the hard work being put in by all ranks of NAB staff in an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism, where fight against corruption is being taken as a national duty.

Increase in the number of complaints also reflects enhanced public trusted in the NAB. The PILDAT report for the last year also supports the position stated above as 42% people trusted NAB against 30 % for police and 29 % for government officials. The recent reports of Transparency International also rated Pakistan in Corruption Perception Index (CPI) from 175 to 126 in 2014 and in 2015 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) decreased from 126 to 117 which is a great achievement for Pakistan due to NAB’s efforts.

He said that to create Awareness against the ill effects of corruption among the youth of Pakistan, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Over 42000 Character Building Societies (CBSs) have been established by NAB in universities and colleges to create awareness against corruption as youths are considered a vanguard in this fight. He said that signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two countries in anti-corruption work will enhance cooperation to eradicate corruption.

The Chairman NAB, Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said that NAB is committed to eradicate corruption from Pakistan by adopting Zero Tolerance Policy. He said that NAB’s Anti-corruption campaign in Pakistan will continue in year 2016 as it proved very successful during 2015. He said that NAB hopes that joint efforts of all stakeholders can collaborate to check corruption and corrupt practices before happening with the help of all stakeholders, civil society, media and people at large.

H.E. Ms. Hou Changan, Secretary of CDI of CPC, H.E. Mr. Wu Qi, DG of National Bureau of Corruption Prevention, Hubei and H.E. Ms. Qan Puliu, DG, Foreign Office, China appreciated NAB’s efforts for eradication of corruption under the leadership of Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB. They talked about strategic partnership between the two countries and the need for future cooperation in the field of Anti-Corruption work and termed signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two countries for collaboration in Anti-Corruption work a very significant step. They expressed their firm commitment for cooperation in eradication of corruption between the two countries in further.
