Islamabad: In a message marking International Literacy Day, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, emphasized the transformative role of literacy in fostering individual empowerment and societal prosperity. He outlined the government’s commitment to advancing educational initiatives across Pakistan, aligning with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for nationwide literacy enhancement.

According to Press Information Department, Khan described literacy as a fundamental human right essential for economic opportunities, societal participation, and personal development. The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme spearheads quality education and skills development initiatives aimed at providing lifelong learning opportunities for every Pakistani citizen. Central to these efforts is the “Education Emergency” initiative, which focuses on enrolling approximately 26 million out-of-school children. This strategy includes providing free meals, scholarships, and other incentives to lower dropout rates and promote complete educational journeys among students.

Khan also highlighted the integration of technology in education, promoting digital literacy to prepare the youth for the evolving demands of the digital economy. The initiative aims to modernize education and ensure young Pakistanis are well-equipped for future challenges. Additionally, he stressed the importance of partnerships with the private sector and civil society to bridge education with employment opportunities, creating a more inclusive and dynamic workforce.

On International Literacy Day, Khan called on all stakeholders to join in the government’s mission to enhance literacy and educational prospects, envisioning a future where every child and citizen in Pakistan can access the benefits of a comprehensive education.
