Eight Dead in Lucknow Building Collapse Amid Monsoon Season

Lucknow: A three-storey commercial building in Lucknow, India, collapsed recently, resulting in the deaths of eight people and injuring 28 others. Rescue operations are ongoing as teams work diligently to determine if more individuals are trapped under the debris.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the building housed several small businesses, including a warehouse and a vehicle workshop. The sudden collapse has raised concerns about building safety during India’s monsoon season, which is notorious for contributing to structural failures due to heavy rains.

A worker from the building, Akash Singh, noted that he had observed a crack in one of the building’s pillars and had moved to the ground floor just before the structure gave way. “Suddenly, the entire building collapsed on us,” Singh recounted, highlighting the abruptness of the disaster.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the loss of life as “heartbreaking.” He extended condolences to the families of those who perished and assured ongoing support in the rescue efforts.

The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, with authorities focused on understanding the factors that led to this tragic event during a season known for its harsh weather conditions.
