Chief Executive Officer K-Electric meets Zubair Motiwala

Karachi, August 03, 2015 (PPI-OT):A meeting was held with CEO, K-Electric Mr. Tayyab Tareen with Mr. M. Zubair Motiwala, Former President, S.I.T.E. Association of Industry and KCCI along with Industrialists. It was pointed out to CEO of extended the load shedding during the month of Ramazan. He was informed this Ramazan, industries has suffered a lot due to load shedding more than 7 hours daily.

He said that K-Electric has been in the practice of not disturbing the industrial areas and since last few years these areas were not shedded, he also told CEO that K-Electric has been able to bring the improvement in T and D losses and other technical aspects which has enhanced their capacity to supply more power to consumers, why in this year industries had to face such a situation?

CEO, K-Electric explained that load shedding has only been carried out in the month of Ramazan due to very unusual high temperature which laid to record high electricity demand plus it was the decision of Government that there will be no load shedding in residential areas in the holy month of Ramazan, therefore K-Electric had no other option but to take this tough decision, he assured that industry is top priority in terms of supply electricity and will remain so in the future too.

He also presented Future Investment Plan of US dollars to billion to enhance generation and build new infrastructure and network and also to improve the existing system. He said this is in addition to US dollar 1.2 billion already invested. He also said their Company as entered into profit due massive reduction in Transmission and Distribution losses which now stands at 23% compared to 40% few years ago. He also mentioned one of the press coverage saying K-Electric has changed Copper wires into Aluminium. He said this has been undertaken where it is technically viable and still 85% supplies are made to through Copper wires.

Mr. Motiwala suggested that these kinds of Plan load sheddings must be consulted with stake holders before implementation. He agreed that system has improved then the past but there is still much room for improvement, he thanked CEO Mr. Tayyab Tareen for exempting industries from load shedding since last few years and appeal to him to continue strictly on this policy. CEO assured that industries are and will remain the priority of K-Electric and all the possible measures would be taken for an uninterrupted supply to all the industrial areas.
