Karachi, July 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): Minister for Information Technology, Government of Sindh Muhammad Raza Haroon said that Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) will help the government plan and implement e-Governance in the country efficiently.

He was addressing a seminar on CRMS, which was arranged by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), as the chief guest here at a local hotel.

While lauding the role of NADRA, he said that with the technical support of the authority regarding training of local governments a catalyst change in the society is expected.

On the occasion, Director General NADRA Zahid Hussain while said regarding CRMS the negotiations are under way to operationalize 345 union councils across the country. He informed that there are 6550 union councils/TMAs/Cantonment boards in the country, out of which 6205 are operational.

‘Taking all such union councils on board for registration of vital events in the short span of 6 years is a colossal achievement for the organization,’ he said, adding that this current project of NADRA with the help of UNFPA will support CRMS in the rural areas of the country where performance is comparatively low.

He said that ‘this short term project meant for 7 months will be transformed into a long term programme for five years.’ He told the gathering that teams of CRMS Directorate are working day and night in coordination with UNFPA to develop a comprehensive strategy for the implementation of the project throughout Pakistan.

At the first stage of AWP Annual work plan, successful training/workshop activities have been conducted in the rural areas of Sindh including Badin, MirpurKhas and Hyderabad with the cooperation of respective local governments.

It is to be noted that NADRA started CRMS as a pilot project in Lahore in 2004 with collaboration of the then local government. Later it was extended to the whole country in 2006, and since then NADRA has been providing technical support, training facility and security paper to local governments regarding issuing of certificates and registration.
