Civilian killings spark anti-India demos in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 14, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, people staged protests in Bemina and Batamaloo areas of Srinagar against the killing of a youth and a woman by Indian troops.

The troops shot dead the youth, Sheikh Tanveer Hussain and the woman during checking in a passenger bus at Kud on Srinagar-Jammu highway, yesterday. Indian police and army fired teargas shells on protesters in Bemina who were demanding the body of the martyred youth. The police had sealed all entry points of the area to prevent people from visiting the victim family.

Several people were injured in police action on a protest demonstration erupted after an Indian Army vehicle hit and critically injured a motorcyclist at Lawaypora on Srinagar-Baramulla Highway.

Meanwhile, the Indian police have launched a massive hunt for Hurriyet leaders and activists to foil a joint protest sit-in, call for which has been given by Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik against anti-Kashmir policies of India. The protest will be held at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, tomorrow. Syed Ali Gilani in his statement issued in Srinagar, today, condemned the arrests and reaffirmed resolve to go ahead with the protest programme. He said that Jammu and Kashmir was a human and political issue, and needed to be resolved in a political way, as Kashmiris never accepted the military occupation of their territory by India.

In Geneva, Kashmiri woman representative Shamim shawl while speaking at the 32nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council under item 2 demanded of the Council to take immediate action against the inhuman treatment meted out to the Kashmiri people at the hands of Indian forces in occupied Kashmir. Kashmiri representative Syed Faiz Naqshbandi during his meeting with Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations in Geneva stressed the need for implementation of World Body’s resolutions on Kashmir to avert threat to peace in South Asia.
