Islamabad: A condolence meeting to offer Fateha for the departed soul of Begum Nusrat Bhutto, who died at Dubai on Sunday, was held at the Permanent Mission of Pakistan, New York on Monday. Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon was in chair. The meeting was attended by the officials of the mission, says a press release received here today from New York.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Haroon said that “we are all deeply grieved to hear the sad demise of Begum Nusrat Bhutto”. She was a great democrat – brave women – who had fought a heroic struggle for the restoration of democracy in the country at a time when her husband was behind the bar. She was a woman of extra-ordinary compassion and made a major contribution in empowering Pakistani women. Her services for democracy in the country will be long remembered, the Ambassador said.

To observe the national mourning, a Condolence Book is placed at Pakistan Mission to record condolences from delegates of the Member-States.
