Islamabad, November 10, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Ambassador to Germany, Mr. Abdul Basit, stated that Pakistanis living in Germany provide the organic link between Pakistan and Germany. The more they were streamed, the more effective they would be towards promoting Pakistan-Germany relations, says a press release received here today from Berlin.
The Ambassador was addressing the participants of a conference on “Cultural Bridges between Pakistan and Germany in the context of Globalization and Multiculturalism” organized by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy last evening. Mr. Basit said that the roadmap for strategic dialogue signed during Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar’s visit to Berlin provided a framework for augmenting interaction between the two countries in the fields of education, culture, trade and investment. The roadmap would help fostering people-to-people contact and enhancing mutual understanding.
Dilating upon the subject of multiculturalism and integration, Mr. Basit said there was a need for better understanding of Islam and Muslim traditions on the part of the Western world for harmony in multicultural societies that were emerging in the wake of Globalization. Respect for one another’s religious beliefs, cultures, and traditions and frequent interaction by mainstream communities with minorities would certainly help improve relations among various ethnic and religious groups living in multicultural societies, he added.
