CPI (M) Accuses Tripura Government of Fomenting Communal Tensions to Mask Failures

Agartala: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Tripura has accused the state’s BJP-led government of inciting communal tensions as a strategy to deflect from its failures and the growing public dissatisfaction.

According to Kashmir Media Service, CPI (M) state secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Assembly, Jitendra Chaudhury, voiced these concerns at a press conference after the party’s state committee meeting. The meeting focused on assessing the socio-political and economic issues impacting residents in the recent months.

Chaudhury highlighted several recent incidents, including communal unrest in Kadamtala and Pekucherra, which he claimed were orchestrated by the state government to shift attention away from pressing issues. He discussed the deterioration in law and order, exemplified by twin murders in Agartala and the alleged fatal police mistreatment of a tribal youth. Further, he detailed the violent clashes in Kadamtala on October 6, which led to one death when police intervened, and subsequent religious site attacks in Pekucherra on October 15, which intensified local tensions.
