Srinagar, July 27 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities imposed curfew in the Badgam district, today, after the death of a woman who was injured by an Indian policeman on Tuesday.hurriyat2

Fifty-five years old Fatima of Dadina area of Badgam, who was critically injured after she was hit in the head by an Indian policeman with his rifle, succumbed to her injuries at Soura Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar early this morning. As her body reached Dalina, people took to the streets and staged demonstrations against her killing.

They demanded a murder case against the involved policeman. Family and relatives of the woman told media men that the policeman had beaten her without any reason when she was standing with other women.

The death of the woman has led to a fresh wave of tension in the district. Over two dozen villages of the district have been reeling under curfew without break since the outbreak of sectarian clashes on Tuesday. The authorities have deployed Indian police and troops in strength in the district to prevent people from holding demonstrations against the killing.

The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and other Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, in their separate statements expressed grief over the death of the woman. They said that India had given its troops and police a licence to kill innocent Kashmiris.

On the other hand, Syed Ali Gilani and the spokesman of APHC in their statements strongly condemned the assertion of Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad, that pro-freedom leaders were paying money to youth for stone pelting. They said that stone pelting was a sign of resistance across the world and didn’t need any finance.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Maulana Abbas Ansari and other speakers addressing a programme in the premises of Aali Masjid Eidgah in Srinagar paid rich tributes to the prominent Kashmiri religious scholar and former AJK President, Mirwaiz Maulana Muhammad Yousuf Shah, on his 46th death anniversary, today.
