Lucknow: The body of a 22-year-old Dalit woman was discovered in a canal in Ayodhya, raising allegations of murder from her family. The grim discovery has sparked outrage in the community, with demands for immediate justice.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, police reported that the woman’s family claimed her eyes had been gouged out. The family further stated that her body showed signs of severe trauma, with broken bones and limbs bound with a rope.
The woman went missing last Thursday after leaving her home at 10 p.m. to attend a religious event. Concerned when she did not return, her family conducted a search and reported her missing to the Ayodhya police the following day. They allege that the police’s response was lackluster.
Her brother-in-law found her unclothed body in the canal on Saturday morning. The family and local villagers who retrieved her reported deep wounds, a severely injured skull, and a fractured leg.
Authorities are investigating the possibility that the woman was gang-raped prior to her murder.
The discovery of the body drew a large crowd to the scene, with many in the community calling for swift and decisive action from law enforcement.
