Karachi: The 9th death anniversary of prominent philanthropist and humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi was observed on Tuesday. Abdul Sattar Edhi was born on February 28, 1928, in Gujarat in British India and initiated his welfare services in Pakistan in 1951.
According to Radio Pakistan, Abdul Sattar Edhi established the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network and provided shelters for homeless people, animals, and orphanages across the country. His work earned him many international and national awards, including the Asian Noble, the Lenin Peace Prize, and Nishan-e-Imtiaz, acknowledging his contributions to humanity.
Edhi’s foundation also extended its relief efforts beyond Pakistan, providing aid in countries such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Croatia, Indonesia, and the United States. Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away in 2016 at the age of 88 in Karachi, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service.
