Death Anniversary of Legendary Newscaster Shakeel Ahmad Observed

Islamabad: The death anniversary of Radio Pakistan’s legendary newscaster Shakeel Ahmad was observed on Friday: Shakeel Ahmad joined All India Radio, Mumbai in 1937 as an announcer. In 1941, he was transferred to the Delhi station, where he was assigned to news broadcasting instead of announcer duties.

According to Radio Pakistan, following the creation of Pakistan, Shakeel Ahmad migrated to the country and, as a result, earned the honour of reading the first Urdu news bulletin from Radio Pakistan, Lahore.

In recognition of his services, he was awarded the President’s Award for Pride of Performance.
