Defence production industry of Pakistan made significant progress in developing indigenous capabilities for production of sophisticated weapon systems

Abu Dhabi, February 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): The robust and vibrant Defence production industry of Pakistan has made significant progress in developing indigenous capabilities for production of sophisticated weapon systems and equipment and has the capacity to export its products from small arms to jet fighters. The Ambassador of Pakistan, Mr. Jamil Ahmad Khan said this during his visit of the Pakistan Pavilion at the International Defence Expo, “IDEX” which is currently being held in Abu Dhabi.

24 high profile and auxiliary defence production companies from Pakistan are participating in this exhibition this year. The Ambassador while visiting various stalls at Pakistan Pavilion said that it is, indeed, a matter of great pleasure to see that the visitors and experts from different parts of the world are showing keen interest in Pakistani products.

Pakistan, the Ambassador pointed out, has achieved excellence in defence production which is a breakthrough in the defence field. He said it was a matter of great satisfaction that experts from different countries have also showed interest in Pakistan Ordnance Factories, Heavy Industries Taxila and Global Industries and Defence Solutions equipment especially the Al-Khalid tank and the experts said that Al-Khalid includes qualities of some of the best tanks in the world, like targeting the enemy at night and auto-tracking of enemy tanks.

He said that Pakistan’s defence industry has the capacity to meet the demands of its own armed forces as well as to manufacture surplus products in order to earn foreign exchange for national development.

There are a number of friendly countries who have already acquired our facilitation in the field of defence and are already engaged with our Defence industries in benefiting jointly from each other’s potential and capabilities.

“There are things that we can offer that can really interest the whole world and the defence exports could increase dramatically by exporting Al-Khalid, along with JF-17 thunder fighter aircraft at an affordable price” he added.

He said that this year we have participated in this exhibition along with 03 vessels including a submarine, a Multi-Purpose Auxiliary Craft “Jurrat” which has been fabricated in Pakistan with full integration of weaponry and Destroyer “ShahJahan” modified as per the requirements of our own armed forces. All the three vessels are equipped with the indigenously produced weapon systems.

Khan said that IDEX provides excellent opportunity to develop better understanding and friendship, networking of defence industry for trade and joint ventures and more importantly seeking affordable solutions to prevent war through conventional balance.

He said that International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) has become a meeting place for Defence exhibitors and delegations, analysts and trade visitors seeking affordable solutions to meet challenges faced by the Defence industry.

On arrival at the exhibition venue the Ambassador was received by Lt. General (R) Shahid Iqbal, Secretary Defence Production, who briefed him about the Pakistani companies participating in the exhibition and the products on display.
