Srinagar, The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a call for global intervention to help settle the ongoing Kashmir conflict and halt the cycle of human rights abuses perpetuated by India’s Hindutva regime in the region. This plea comes in the wake of continued detentions of Kashmiri leaders, human rights defenders, and journalists.
According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesman, Advocate Arshad Iqbal, highlighted these concerns in a statement from Srinagar, urging the international community and human rights organizations to recognize and act upon the systematic violations occurring in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Iqbal accused Indian troops of employing draconian laws to terrorize the local populace through frequent cordon and search operations, which include harassment and public humiliation.
Further, Iqbal criticized Indian secret agencies for allegedly coercing Kashmiris into supporting the BJP government during the Lok Sabha elections, and for terrorizing families of Hurriyat leaders by attaching their homes and properties as a means to suppress political dissent. He stated that despite these aggressive tactics, Kashmiri resistance leaders remain steadfast in their struggle for autonomy.
The DFP’s appeal underscores the deep-rooted and complex nature of the Kashmir issue, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
