Dr Ebad, Kurban Alavi preside moot to review law and order

Karachi, March 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan and Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (Retd) Zahid Kurban Alavi here Friday presided over meeting to review law and order situation in the province especially in the city in the light of Supreme Court of Pakistan’s observations in the case of Peace and Security.

In a joint press briefing held at the Governor House, the Governor and the Caretaker CM expressed their determination that every possible action would be taken against all kinds of criminals across the board till safety of life and property of the citizens is ensured.

The Governor said that peace and security is prerequisite for holding free and fair elections in the province and the city besides to run routine life matters smoothly.”Our law enforcing agencies were making their best efforts in this regard and these would be expedited to get the desired results within shortest possible time.”

He said today’s meeting was like a follow up to implement the SCP observations/rulings. “We have adopted the strategy to contain crimes, that the impact is visible to the general public to their satisfaction.”

“The targeted actions against all criminals will be expedited further. Weekly review will also be done to see the progress,” he asserted.

He advised the political parties to stand by the law enforcing agencies working day and night to contain the crimes.

About “No Go Areas” identified by the Supreme Court, he said the Government has taken responsibility and was taking all required measures in this regard.

He expressed his satisfaction over the campaign being carried by Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh against the criminals in the province, especially in the city.

To a query about General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf’s security on his return to the country, he replied that it is a subject of the Federal Government. Musharraf is former president of the country and he is entitled to certain level of security cover.

Caretaker CM Sindh Justice (Retd) Zahid Kurban Alavi said that he has a free hand to adopt any strategy against criminals to its logical end of maintaining peace and security in the province as he has no affiliation with any political party.

To a question, he said that he would have small size cabinet and it would be formed by coming Tuesday.

To a media question, Sindh AIGP Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh said that very limited police cover would be continued to be provided to some former ministers, if they had security threat.
