Ebad announces Rs 70million for press bodies

Karachi, March 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has appreciated the efforts by professional bodies of the journalists for welfare of their community.

This he said while talking to the delegation of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) at Governor House here on Monday. Amin Yousuf and G M Jamali led the delegation.

The Governor on this occasion announced Rs 20 million grant for the Endowment fund of PFUJ and Rs 50 million for KUJ.

The Governor assured that he himself would monitor the matters related to the proposed housing project for journalists in Karachi.

He announced to set up a committee comprising representatives of KUJ, all concerned departments for provision of civic facility including water supply, electricity and Sui gas.

He also directed that the meeting of the committee be convened immediately so that the work could be started as early as possible.

He said that the government believes in independence of media and right of expression. He ensured that maximum facilities will be provided to journalists to improve their professional abilities.

The members of the delegation including president of Tahir najmi, Wajid Isfahani, Abdul Qadoos, Faisal Aziz Rehan Hashami and others thanked the Governor for his cooperation.
