Ebad for merit as main induction criteria in police service

Karachi, November 19, 2012 (PPI-OT): Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has directed for introducing a new technical cadre in Police Service of the province and adopting merit as the main criterion for induction in this cadre.

Chairing a high level meeting at the Governor House on Sunday, he said competent and qualified individuals must be recruited for e-policing, an essential component of the envisaged police service’s technical cadre.

The meeting chaired by Dr.Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan was attended by Principal Secretary to Governor, Dr. Naushad Shaikh, Additional Chief Secretary, Waseem Ahmed, IG- Sindh police, Fayyaz Laghari, Deputy DG – Sindh Rangers, Mohmmad Rafiq Khan, Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Hashim Raza, Add. Commissioner Mudassar Iqbal, CPLC Chief, Ahmed Chinoy and AIG – Karachi, Iqbal Mahmood.

The meeting extensively reviewed measures to weed-out crime and also to improve policing in the province, particularly in Karachi.

Sindh Governor said mere improvement in technology would not help in achieving the target of eradicating criminal activities.

He feared that absence of merit in induction to the service may turn massive investment made in procuring technology useless.

“It is therefore extremely crucial to have well qualified and trained professionals in the police department capable to make proper use of technology,” said Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan.

The Governor reiterated that technically competent and professionally qualified personnel in police service can make proper use of anti criminal and anti terrorist technology used worldwide.

He also emphasized importance of community policing and said this complimented by hi-tech can provide massive relief to the masses against criminals and terrorists.

These two apparently and on significant occasions registered working hand in hand, said the Governor.
