ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee has approved a proposal from the Power Division aimed at managing winter energy demand for industrial, domestic, commercial, and general services consumers of DISCOs and K-Electric. The decision, announced at an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, seeks to optimize the use of system generation capacity and reduce gas demand by encouraging a shift towards electricity consumption during the winter months.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the initiative will introduce a tariff of 26.07 rupees for all eligible consumers based on their incremental electricity usage exceeding benchmark consumption during the corresponding months. This initiative will be applicable for a three-month billing period, from December to February. The program is designed to promote efficient energy use and balance the energy mix in response to seasonal demand fluctuations.
