ECP issues instructions to interim Govts for ensuring free & fair elections

Election Commission of Pakistan has instructed the interim governments at federal and provincial levels to guarantee a fair and balanced playing field for all candidates and political parties in the upcoming general elections.

In a notification, the Election Commission banned transfers and postings of public officers without obtaining its prior written approval as per Election Act of 2017, to ensure transparent elections.

Ban has also been imposed on all forms of recruitment in federal, provincial, and local government ministries, divisions, departments, or institutions, with only exception in cases with prior approval from the Commission.

The Election Commission has further instructed the interim governments to abstain from declaring or initiating any new development projects at both federal and provincial levels, except for those that are already in progress or approved prior to the issuance of the notification.

The interim authorities have also been instructed to disclose their assets’ information within three days of taking up their responsibilities.
