Lahore: Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has announced that sweeping reforms and infrastructure upgrades are underway to modernize Pakistan Railways, focusing on safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
According to Radio Pakistan, Hanif Abbasi highlighted the recent agreement between Pakistan Railways and the Punjab government as a significant milestone aimed at improving services across the province. The minister stated that the Rohri-Karachi railway track is expected to be upgraded by September this year, with similar projects being initiated nationwide to enhance rail infrastructure and ensure safer operations.
Efforts are also being made to digitalize the railway system to streamline services and improve transparency. Highlighting financial reforms, Abbasi mentioned that the ministry is taking steps to boost revenue, with a strategic target to generate 80 percent of earnings through freight operations.
He further announced that Awam Express will commence operations from Peshawar starting on the 30th of next month.
