Election Commission of Pakistan Enforces Campaign Restrictions Ahead of PP-139 Bye-Election

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a reminder to candidates contesting the upcoming bye-election in the PP-139 Sheikhupura-IV constituency, emphasizing adherence to Section 182 of the Elections Act, 2017. This section prohibits the organization or participation in public meetings and processions within the constituency during the 48-hour period preceding the conclusion of the poll.

According to Press Information Department, candidates and political parties are urged to comply with these legal provisions, which are enforceable by potential penalties including imprisonment of up to two years, fines up to one hundred thousand rupees, or both. The election campaign for PP-139 Sheikhupura-IV is mandated to conclude by midnight between December 3rd and December 4th, 2024. The Election Commission advises all involved parties to exercise self-restraint to ensure an orderly and peaceful election process scheduled for December 5th, 2024.
