Election Commission of Pakistan takes serious notice of firing in bye-elections

Islamabad, December 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Election Commission of Pakistan has taken serious notice of the incessant firing with lethal weapons at the houses/deras of the winning candidates in the recent bye-elections in various constituencies. In this regard, an FIR has been registered against the persons firing at Sialkot and three accused persons have been arrested and weapons have been recovered from them.

The Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab has also been directed to contact the Chief Secretary, Punjab, DCOs of the respective cities to lodge First Information Reports (FIR) against the miscreants indulged in firing which caused harassment, fear and injury to one person. Furthermore, the miscreants of the other constituencies be arrested for violating section 144 Cr. P.C. as well as causing harassment and fear to the Public and action shall be initiated for registration of FIRs against the remaining culprits of the other constituencies.

Furthermore, a letter has been sent to various TV channels for sending footage of the firing, caught on their cameras, to the ECP.

In addition, a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan is going to be held at Karachi on Friday, the 7th December 2012 to discuss recent bye-elections in Punjab and Sindh, issue of dual nationalities, electoral rolls as well as delimitation of Karachi in the light of judgment of Supreme Court, and some other important administrative matters.
