Emirates Unveils Retrofitted B777 with Premium Economy in Karachi

Karachi: Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, marked a significant milestone by showcasing its retrofitted B777 aircraft, featuring Premium Economy cabins, in Karachi. The event, held at Jinnah International Airport, celebrated the 40th anniversary of Emirates’ operations in Pakistan, which began with its inaugural flight, EK600, to Karachi in 1985.

The special aircraft, also operating as EK600, arrived in Karachi at 10:45 a.m. for a preview attended by key stakeholders and media. Guests, including UAE Consul General H.E. Bakheet Ateeq Al-Rumaithi and local dignitaries, were given a tour of the reconfigured four-class aircraft.

Emirates’ Vice President for Pakistan, Mohammed Alhashmi, emphasized Karachi’s importance in the airline’s history, noting the city’s role as the destination for Emirates’ first international flight. Alhashmi highlighted Emirates’ commitment to Pakistan, citing its contributions to the aviation sector and economy, along with job creation.

Since 1985, Emirates has carried over 19 million passengers between Dubai and Karachi on more than 87,000 flights. The airline’s operations in Pakistan extend to five points, with over 36 million passengers traveling on 146,000 flights. Emirates also facilitates significant trade, transporting over 73,000 tonnes of cargo annually to and from Pakistan.

The retrofitted B777 introduces Emirates’ Premium Economy class, designed to offer enhanced comfort with leather reclining seats, adjustable headrests, and in-seat charging points. Passengers can enjoy a 13.3-inch TV screen, a cocktail table, and a refined dining experience with regional menu options.

With three daily flights connecting Karachi to global destinations, Emirates remains integral to the city’s aviation landscape. Popular destinations include Jeddah, London, and New York, while top feeder markets feature Bangkok, Dammam, and Sydney.

Emirates’ Premium Economy aims to elevate the travel experience for passengers seeking more comfort on long-haul flights. The airline plans to continue rolling out this class to key destinations, enhancing its service offering to a diverse range of travelers.
