Karachi: Engro Corporation Limited has announced the completion of all necessary approvals for a strategic partnership with Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited, known as Jazz, and its parent company, VEON Group. This collaboration is set to expand Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure significantly, marking a major private-sector investment in the nation’s digital future.
Under this agreement, Jazz’s telecom infrastructure assets, housed in Deodar (Private) Limited, will transition to Engro Connect (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of Engro Corporation, through a Scheme of Arrangement. This move will give all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) access to Engro’s extensive portfolio of over 14,000 towers. The shared infrastructure is expected to reduce costs for MNOs and enhance service quality, potentially bringing millions of Pakistanis online.
Engro’s existing tower platform is anticipated to support future technological advancements. Globally, telecom towers are evolving beyond mobile signals, contributing to smart city development and community infrastructure enhancement. Engro aims to prepare for such innovations, reinforcing its commitment to Pakistan’s economic growth.
Hussain Dawood, Engro’s Chairman, emphasized the investment as a testament to Engro’s commitment to Pakistan’s digital future. Abdul Samad Dawood, CEO of Engro Holdings, highlighted the role of technology and connectivity in national progress, viewing this milestone as a strategic expansion of telecom infrastructure.
Ahsan Zafar Syed, President and CEO of Engro Corporation, praised the venture into telecom as a bold move that underscores the company’s belief in partnership and perseverance. He credited the success to the cooperation among Engro’s teams, VEON Group, Jazz, and regulatory bodies.
The partnership has received endorsements from various stakeholders, including the Government of Pakistan, the Special Investment Facilitation Council, the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications, and others. Engro expressed gratitude to its financial and legal partners and employees for their efforts in realizing this vision, contributing to a digital backbone that promises a more connected future for Pakistan.
