EU Envoy’s Visit to FPCCI Sparks Economic Dialogue

Karachi: The European Union’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Raimundas Karoblis, visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to discuss enhancing economic relations between the EU and Pakistan. The visit aims to bolster ties ahead of the first EU-Pakistan Business Forum scheduled for April 2026 in Islamabad.

Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, highlighted the forum’s significance in fostering dialogue and partnerships between the two regions. Supported by the EU, its member states, and Pakistan’s government, the event will feature high-level discussions and is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

Sheikh emphasized that the EU is a key trading partner, with the GSP Plus status playing a crucial role in boosting Pakistan’s exports. He affirmed FPCCI’s commitment to facilitating European investments in sectors such as renewable energy, IT, and textiles.

Ambassador Karoblis acknowledged FPCCI’s pivotal role in trade and industry, expressing the EU’s intent to deepen economic ties. He reiterated the EU’s support for Pakistan’s sustainable growth, especially through the GSP Plus scheme and other initiatives.

Asif Inam, Vice President of FPCCI, noted the visit reflects mutual trust between Pakistan’s private sector and the EU. He assured the Ambassador of the business community’s support in enhancing trade, which has surpassed €12 billion, and attracting more EU investments.

Zubair Baweja, head of FPCCI’s Pak-EU Desk, underscored the importance of the engagement in strengthening business linkages. He expressed eagerness to work with Ambassador Karoblis on initiatives to leverage GSP Plus opportunities and promote market access for Pakistani exporters.
